Cheese Trap: Max Rewards

The alliance rat-boss rally: personal five-phase rewards, the shared alliance HP pool, why join order means nothing, and the level-scaling math that decides which rat to fight.

Cheese Trap is an alliance PvE rally event against a giant rat. Your personal damage earns personal rewards across five phases, and the alliance’s total damage earns separate alliance rewards. It looks like a pure power event — it is actually a planning event, and the difference is worth several reward tiers.

This guide covers the two reward tracks, the stop-point rule, level scaling, and how to read the rankings before your alliance commits to a rat.

How It Works

  • An R4 or R5 sets the start via the unified Event Schedule. From that click the alliance has about 1.5 hours to attack.
  • Cursed Land Placement Forbidden: Since the July 2, 2026 update, placing new Cheese Traps in the Cursed Land is no longer permitted.
  • Cheese Trap I and II differ only in time — same rat, same rules, different window. Pick whichever fits your schedule.
  • You can only fight ONE of the two rats. There is no splitting your troops across both.
  • Offline participation works — join the rally ahead of time and your squads fight even if you log off. Set your march before the window opens, then live your life.

The Two Reward Tracks

The interaction between the tracks is the important part:

  • STOP after personal Phase 5. Damage past that point is pure troop loss — zero extra personal rewards for the troops you burn.
  • Both rats share one HP pool for alliance rewards. If one player reaches Phase 5 on one rat and another stops at Phase 3 on the other, the alliance total counts as if everyone hit Phase 5. The pool — not the phase — is what matters.

Rally Mechanics: What Actually Matters

  • Joining an R4/R5 rally grants +2.5% attack. Join the rally instead of solo-marching. Every time.
  • Rally initiator strength and join order have ZERO effect on your damage. Joining first does not hit harder; joining last does not leech. Stop jockeying for position — it changes nothing.
  • Every troop deals damage. The rat’s HP pool is enormous, and no single heavy hitter can “use it up” — a full march of cheap troops out-damages a half march of expensive ones. Bring bodies, not just elites.

Level Scaling: Which Rat to Fight

The level decision has a clean rule:

Phase 4 of the next-level rat is marginally better than Phase 5 of the previous level — and pays better total rewards.

In practice:

  • Established alliances run level 7 or 8.
  • Near a KvK day, pick level 7 — you want troops alive for the war, and the marginal reward of level 8 is not worth the extra losses.

Before committing, check the rankings: count the players hitting Phase 5 on the level 6 rat versus the players reaching Phase 4+ on level 7. If more of your roster clears P4 on 7 than P5 on 6, the higher rat is the better call.

Reading the In-Game Rewards Table

The full rewards table is in the game: Special event > Cheese Trap tab > Gift button > Rewards. Read it before the rat opens — the phase-by-phase comparison tells you exactly where your roster’s stopping point lands.

Team Setup

Squad priorities for a long boss fight:

  • Survivability + sustained DPS + synergy. The rat is a marathon, not a burst check.
  • Tanky frontline — heroes that stand for the full fight.
  • Strong backline — the damage engine behind the frontline.
  • Support-healer — keeps the frontline alive, which keeps the backline safe, which keeps damage flowing.

Specific hero picks and faction synergies are in the Heroes guide.

The Whale-Carry Option

If your alliance has one heavy hitter, there is an efficient endgame pattern: 2-3 rallies are enough to max alliance rewards when the whale carries the damage. Everyone else joins the rally for the +2.5%, drops their troops in, and stops at their personal Phase 5. The whale’s damage fills the shared pool; the alliance tier fills; nobody burns troops past their own stop point.
